Apollo Hospitals Partners with the ePlane Company to Explore India’s First Electric Air Ambulance Network

Apollo Hospitals has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The ePlane Company, a Chennai-based aerospace start-up, to explore India’s first electric air ambulance network. The collaboration aims to integrate electric air ambulances and medical delivery drones into Apollo’s emergency care ecosystem, to support faster access to specialized care for patients in both urban and remote regions.  

 
Timely access to care during the "golden hour" following trauma, stroke, or cardiac emergencies can significantly improve patient outcomes. By combining The ePlane Company’s electric aircraft and drone technologies with Apollo Hospitals’ nationwide hospital network and 1066 ambulance services, the partnership aims to reduce transport delays and support faster patient transfers, organ transport, and delivery of critical medical supplies. 
 
Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Founder and Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group, emphasized that too many lives in India are lost because emergency medical help cannot reach patients in time. He noted that the collaboration with The ePlane Company reflects Apollo Hospitals' commitment to extending its clinical expertise to every corner of the country, including remote and underserved regions. 
 
Prof. Satya Chakravarthy, Founder & CTO, The ePlane Company, highlighted that every minute is critical during a medical emergency. He said the collaboration will explore how electric aircraft and drones can help shorten the time between an accident and definitive treatment, particularly for millions of Indians living far from specialized trauma care. 
 
The collaboration will also evaluate the deployment of The ePlane Company’s e200X electric air ambulance platform and Amber Wings medical drones, subject to regulatory approvals and operational feasibility, further advancing technology-enabled emergency care across India.
