Dr. Prathap C. Reddy Featured on the Cover of Business Today’s August Issue as Apollo Hospitals Accelerates Growth
Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Founder and Chairman of Apollo Hospitals Group, is among five leading healthcare leaders featured on the cover of Business Today Magazine’s August 2026 issue, which explores India’s expanding private healthcare sector and the rise of “doctorpreneurs”, medical professionals who combine clinical expertise with entrepreneurial vision to build and scale healthcare enterprises.
The issue examines capacity expansion, acquisitions and consolidation, growing investor participation, and the challenge of keeping quality healthcare affordable. Business Today reports that leading private hospital chains are investing more than ₹40,000 crore to add capacity by 2030, driven by rising demand and greater insurance coverage.
Dr. Reddy’s vision was shaped by gaps in advanced medical infrastructure he witnessed after returning to India in the 1970s. At the time, patients often travelled abroad for complex treatments, while hospitals faced significant financing and infrastructure barriers. His sustained efforts and engagement with policymakers helped pave the way for Apollo Hospitals to open in Chennai in 1983, pioneering India’s corporate hospital model and bringing advanced care closer to home.
Since then, Apollo has evolved into an integrated healthcare ecosystem spanning 76 hospitals, 7,000+ pharmacies, 2,500+ clinics and diagnostic centres, and 500+ telemedicine centres. The Group crossed ₹25,000 crore in consolidated revenue in the year ended March 2026, up 16% year on year, while Apollo HealthCo, its pharmacy and digital health arm, became profitable for the first time.
Beyond expanding healthcare infrastructure, Dr. Reddy has long advocated greater health insurance coverage and preventive health checks. A Padma Vibhushan recipient, his belief that healthcare is an investment reflects his longstanding emphasis on prevention and well-being.
His presence on the Business Today cover underscores the enduring impact of his leadership as Indian healthcare advances, with growth and innovation anchored in accessibility, affordability, clinical excellence and patient-first care.
