Over 70 hearing impaired girls benefit from the project, since its launch by IPL Sunrisers HyderabadMay 3rd, 2018: IPL Sunrisers team members, Rashid Khan, Carlos Brathwaite, Sandeep Sharma, Siddarth Kaul and Tom Moody, joined the celebration of over 70 hearing impaired girls benefitting from the ‘Hearing Impaired Girl Child Project’ (HIGCP), initiated by Apollo Hospitals & SAHI, three years ago, on Thursday at Apollo Medical College, Jubilee Hills. The project was incidentally launched by the Sunrisers team in 2015. Also present on the occasion were Dr. Sangita Reddy, Ms. Upasana Kamineni & ENT Surgeons Dr. EC Vinaya Kumar, Dr. K Rambabu, Dr. Jaswinder Singh and other consultants. The IPL team members later interacted with the girls, besides playing cricket with them.  As per WHO estimates, approximately 63 million people suffer from significant hearing impairment every year in India. 4-5 babies in every 1000 born suffer from severe to profound hearing loss in India. If left untreated in the first 3-5 years of life, these children end up with hearing and speech disorders throughout their lifetime.HIGCP has been helping hearing impaired girls under the age of fifteen, by providing the state-of-the-art Cochlear implant and performing the surgery, free of cost. HIGCP bears the entire cost of approximate Rs. 8 lakhs per child. The one-year Auditory Verbal Therapy required Post-surgery, is funded by Pink Crocodile, an international NGO.We have a strong rationale to focus on the girl child for this project, says Dr E.C. Historically too, the needs of a female child is often neglected by parents and the prohibitive cost of treatment only inhibits them, they instead prefer to divert their limited resources to address their son’s aspirations. Also, a hearing and speech impaired girl is in greater danger of remaining unemployed, unmarried or being ill-treated at her in-law’s place, he adds.Cochlear Implant Surgery will empower a hearing-impaired girl child, help her evolve into a respectable citizen, besides enabling her to achieve her dreams and ambitions. Apollo Hospitals, Chennai has successfully performed robotic cardiac surgery on the oldest patient in India at its dedicated Robot-Assisted Cardiac Surgery Unit in Greams Road. Dr. MM. Yusuf and his team has created a milestone by performing the Robotic Assisted Minimally Invasive Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) on a 93-year-old patient. The emergence of multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) poses a major health security threat and could risk gains made in the fight against TB.The epidemic of tuberculosis (TB) is likened to the tip of an iceberg, with significant numbers unreached by the public health systems, globally. In India with an estimated incidence of 2.8 million, only 1.7 million TB cases were notified in 2015. Over a million cases are missing from the national notification system, posing a severe threat to the efforts towards ending TB by 2035, as per the ‘End TB strategy.’ Most of these seek care outside the national TB program in the private sector which is the first point of contact for nearly 80% of the general population. There is currently no mechanism in place in the private sector to follow up patients for adherence and treatment completion and response to treatment is not known.To overcome this precarious situation mainly in the private sector, Apollo Hospitals in partnership with The Union South East Asia office, supported by Eli Lilly Foundation piloted an innovative eHealth intervention to engage corporate hospitals for TB notification and adherence support. As part of this a software was developed, which interfaces with ‘Nikshay’ –the Government’s web-based case-based notification system; and facilitates reminders for treatment adherence. Counselling services are provided through a trained counsellor as a follow up to the messages sent. The program was initiated in June 2015 and has till date reported over 700, as against a mere 1700 patients reported from the entire combined AP and Telangana in the private sector, in the same time period. Hyderabad, September 27th, 2022: The police constable Dawa Naveena, who saved a precious life with her exemplary deed, was felicitated at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, today. Dr Sangita Reddy, Jt. Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Group; while felicitating Naveena, lauded her presence of mind and persistence in reviving an unconscious and unresponsive woman, through CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation), till she became conscious.The 2020 batch constable Dawa Naveena revived a woman housekeeping staff Ranjitha, after she fainted and was badly injured in the stampede that occurred last week at Gymkhana Grounds. The charging crowd, on opening of the gates of Gymkhana ground for sale of tickets for India, Australia match, ran over and virtually crushed Ranjita. Naveena, who was on duty there, with her presence of mind intervened to save Ranjita. She found her unconscious and unresponsive, without wasting a second, Naveena administered CPR, in which she was trained by the Police Department. Despite continuous effort Ranjita didn’t revive, but Naveena persisted till she became conscious and later ensured her admission into a hospital for further treatment.Commending Police Constable Dawa Naveena, Dr Sangita Reddy said, Dawa Naveena needs to be eulogised for her act of saving a precious life of a woman in utmost distress. Her persistence to revive the person despite not having success is to be extolled. Traffic police led by ACP- Panjagutta, Padmanabha Reddy ensured reaching the cadaver heart in flat eight minutes from Yashoda Secunderabad to Apollo Jubilee HillsHyderabad, 9th December, 2013: Apollo Group of Hospitals, which performs the largest number of solid organ transplants in India is pleased to announce the first HEART TRANSPLANT SURGERY at Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad, Jubilee Hills.This life saving heart transplant operation was done at Apollo Heart Institute by a team of specialist doctors led by Dr. Vijay Dikshit, Chief of Cardiothoracic surgery on the night of November 11, 2013.According to Dr Dikshit, the patient Veer Anjaneyulu , a 19 yr old pharmacy student, resident of Karampuri Mandal, Guntur was uffering from a condition called Dilated Cardiomyopathy, where the function of heart muscle is severely depressed. All kinds of medical therapy were tried but nothing could relieve his symptoms. He was repeatedly admitted for breathing difficulty and swelling of the body. He was not able to even sit and eat on his own. He was finally diagnosed as having End Stage heart failure and hence advised heart transplant. While waiting for a compatible donor his condition further deteriorated and he was admitted to the ICU multiple times for further management. His kidney, liver and other organs also started failing along with further worsening of cardiac function. He was kept alive with multiple medicines to support his blood pressure and heart function.On the night of 11 November personnel of the Jeevandan Project of Government of Andhra Pradesh informed us that a donor heart was available at another hospital, at the other end of the city. The donor heart was quickly assessed and found that it is suitable for Veer Anjaneyulu the recipient. A Team of Cardiac Surgeons went to the hospital where the donor was, harvested the heart and quickly transported it to Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad where the donor was ready for the transplant surgery. The time taken to harvest the donor’s heart and transport it to the hospital where the donor is, has a huge impact on the success of heart transplantation surgery. The Jeevandhan Team and the City Traffic Police supported this process and played a significant role in giving a new lease of life to a 19 year old.Pre-operative to preparation, the surgical procedure and post-operative management for a Heart transplantation are complex and demand a high degree of skill, advanced technology and a committed team. Veer Anjaneyulu benefitted from the dedication and commitment of a large team of cardiac surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nurses, technicians and support staff and the post surgery recovery period has been largely uneventful.Veer Anjaneyulu is now discharged. He is a happy man- walking, eating on his own and watching the latest movies. On World Cancer Day, Apollo Cancer Centres took up a strong initiative named Winning Over Cancer to raise awareness about different forms of cancer and how early detection can result in better treatment outcomes. Led by the urge to bring cancer conversations to the forefront, Apollo Cancer Centres, via an engaging campaign, appealed to the public to #Getscreened, examine oneself thoroughly to keep cancer at bay.COVID-19 pandemic has affected cancer care, reductions in cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment have been the major impediments, according to the IHME study.Resonating with the thought that Cancer doesn’t ask for permission, Apollo Cancer Centres have launched the campaign – Winning Over Cancer to urge the public to get screened for cancers. It throws the spotlight on importance of early detection and regular screenings in Cancer care.
