Apollo Hospitals ‘eACCESS’
Hon’ble CM of Telangana Sri K. Chandrashekar Rao launches the state-of-the-art next generation healthcare systemHyderabad, August, 2014: Apollo Hospitals announced the launch of ‘eACCESS’ – a new paradigm in the delivery of critical care services, on the occasion of the 26th Anniversary of Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad on Wednesday at Shilpakala Vedika. This cutting edge technology was formally launched by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Telangana, Sri K. Chandrasekhar Rao. Guest of Honour & Hon’ble Dy. Chief Minister & Health Minister, Telangana Dr. T. Rajaiah; Dr Prathap C. Reddy, Chairman, Apollo Hospitals Group; Ms Sangita Reddy, Jt. Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals Group; Dr Hari Prasad, CEO – Central Region, Apollo Hospitals Group; Consultant Doctors and staff were present on the occasion. After formally launching the ‘eACCESS’, Sri K. Chandrasekhar Rao said Apollo has immense reputation not in India alone but across the globe, even patients I know off come to Apollo Hyderabad from palces like Delhi, despite Apollo existing in Delhi, such is Apollo Hyderabad’s reputation. Even in Karimanagar, Apollo Reach Hospital has been doing excellent work. Hyderabad is going to have ITIR which will attract more people to the city, even the recent survey has pegged Hyderabad’s population at 1.25 crores making it a bigger city than Bangalore or Chennai, therefore I was asking Dr. Prathap Reddy to scale up his services in the city by building more Apollo Hospitals, to meet the needs of the growing populace. Recently during my visit to Malaysia and Singapore, I promised to frame the world’s best industrial policy, Telangana has several other advantages like a 100 lakh acres land bank, corruption free administration etc. People there said if we can implement even 50% of the promises, the investors from all over the world will flock to Hyderabad. All this would need more hospitals in future, he said. The credit of popularising Hyderabad as the medical tourism hub also largely goes to Apollo Hospitals, it played a great role in this, he added.Dr. T. Rajaiah said, Apollo’s moto of serving people has earned it global accolades. He said the populace in the state especially in agency areas is suffering from contamination and spread of viral diseases, due to lack of health awareness and negligence on the part of public servants and paramedic staff. The staff is focusing on treatment rather than prevention. Due to this 60 to 70% of the people resort to superstitious practices and visit the doctor as a last resort after all those have failed. Therefore the new Government in Telangana and the Hon’ble Chief Minister are introducing a new concept called ‘ Mana Vuru Mana Pranalika’ through which will we will create awareness amongst the public about programs of the Government and reach these Government schemes to the people. Through this we can ensure we can ensure people don’t fall victim to diseases. Here my appeal to Apollo, which constantly updates medical community on latest practices through Continous medical programs, to conduct health awareness programs for people in the villages. Apollo should the responsibility of devicing a program to educate people on disease prevention, he said.According to Dr Prathap Reddy, with eACCESS, Apollo has leapfrogged the ICU care to next-generation delivery. The critical care parameters have significantly improved, including a reduction in the average length of stay, decreased patient mortality and reduced patient morbidity. He said Apollo has always been in the lead to bring within the reach of our people the latest technology available anywhere in the world. Because of the latest technology like 2G, 3G, ‘Geography has become history’, he said. Apollo Hospitals Hyderabad today has every single technology the world has. We will shortly bring the latest robotic spine surgery from Israel. Managing critical care patients in the ICUs requires high levels of dexterity 24×7 from the entire ICU team in a clock-like precision. Continuous monitoring and timely interventions by clinical specialists is of paramount importance. This situation becomes grave considering the severe shortage of intensivists. The solution is to innovate and enable the best of critical care to be available even in the areas where critical care specialists are hard to find, Dr Reddy said. Recently ‘Gallup’ recognised Apollo Hospitals as the ‘best place to work in healthcare’ anywhere in the world, he added. Our emphasis is on keeping people well, he said.Ms Sangita Reddy said, when we at Apollo proclaimed our goal was to reach out to ‘Billion lives’ people wondered how it was possible with our existing hospital network. eAccess is precisely an example of this. Through technology we can multiply our reach many times, in the past it was through Telemedicine, Apollo reached out to remote areas. We will be scaling newer frontiers with the launch of ‘m-Health’ in the near future, she added. The state of the art eACCESS initiative of Apollo Hospitals in collaboration with Philips leverages the capabilities of various technologies including two way audiovisual communication, equipment data interface and novel representation of clinical data in various formats along with the added functionality of trends and alarms to facilitate intensivists to provide proactive quality care to the patients remotely.A highly trained critical care team housed at a Command centre can complement the physical activities that happen within an ICU and ensure that patients are monitored continuously on a 24X7 basis through eACCESS. Any deviations in the conditions of patients can be readily picked up by remote monitoring and actions can be initiated promptly, thereby pre-empting possible hazardous complications. Through the eACCESS command centre one Intensivist will be able to monitor 40-50 patients and help the care team onsite to take relevant actions in real-time to prevent complications. This technology has a current capacity of monitoring 500 beds and can be scaled up to 1000 or more beds depending on the need.eACCESS solution enables the establishment of a “hub-and-spoke” model where the command center is the hub and the peripheral ICUs are the spokes. The central command center has multiple “monitoring stations”. Each monitoring station has a high end computer system connected to an array of high resolution computer monitors. Clinical data (coming in from patient monitors / ventilators/ infusion pumps connected to the patient) of patients admitted to the peripheral ICUs is displayed as a “dashboard view”, enabling continuous monitoring of vital data and lab values. The monitoring intensivists/nurse can also triage into the bedside electronic health record system to either view more details than can be seen on the summary screen, or, to place orders for medications and labs.About Apollo Hospitals GroupIn 1983, Dr Prathap C Reddy, the architect of Indian healthcare, launched the first corporate hospital in India, Apollo Hospitals Chennai. Apollo Proton Cancer Centre has successfully treated two unique cancer cases from Bangladesh with advanced Rob...
Apollo Proton Cancer Centre has performed two unique robotic assisted surgeries to save lives of two Bangladeshi patients suffering from cancer. Robot-assisted surgery integrates advanced technology with the experience of skilled surgeons to help the patient have a smoother and faster recovery from major operations, reduce instances of infections, and patient’s length of stay at the facility. The first case to be witnessed in India in Pediatric age group was a low grade Mucoepidermoid carcinoma in the lower end of trachea in a 14-year-old boy. He presented with acute respiratory distress and was diagnosed with a tracheal tumor in Bangladesh, which was completely blocking the right main stem bronchus. At Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, under the care of Surgical Oncologist (Thoracic) & Robotic Surgeon, post evaluation with bronchoscopy, results showed residual tumor on the right anterolateral wall of the trachea about 2 cm from the carina. To treat the disease, he underwent robotic-assisted tracheal resection and reconstruction plus comprehensive mediastinal nodal dissection. Post-operatively, he recovered steadily without any complication and post-op bronchoscopy showed complete healing of the surgical site.A 53-year-old gentleman complained of bleeding per rectum with hemoglobin of 4 due to Colon Cancer. He had history of Myocardial Infarction (heart attack) and had an angioplasty done recently in March 2022 with ejection fraction of only 35 percent. Thorough analysis also revealed thyroid cancer. The patient’s current condition posed high risk because of his cardiac status and dual malignancy. After cardiology consultation and anesthesia consultation, he was treated with Robotic Radical Right Hemicolectomy and conventional right Hemithyroidectomy by the Surgical Oncologist & Robotic Surgery team. The Surgical Oncologist and Robotic Surgeon from Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, said, “I am extremely delighted with the recovery of the 53-year-old and glad that our efforts to treat dual cancers were successful. The decision to perform robotic surgery helped with early recovery and less blood loss. At APCC, high-risk cases are managed in a specialized tertiary center with excellent facilities. The advanced surgical techniques and availability of technology have improved the chances of saving a patient’s life at even advanced stages and critical complications. ”The surgeons who had treated the 14 year old at Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, said, “The case of the 14-year-old boy was the first one ever witnessed in India in the pediatric age group . The patient had been in a constant struggle due to acute respiratory difficulty. The prior surgery he underwent of intra-bronchial incomplete resection/ lateralization of the tumor made the case more critical and urgent. We decided to go for robotic-assisted tracheal resection, reconstruction with 3 tracheal rings, and comprehensive mediastinal nodal dissection. This robotic treatment enabled us to treat the patient quickly yet with the highest precision to ensure the fastest recovery. On day 10, the tests showed complete healing of the surgical site of the trachea.”On the occasion, Mr Harshad Reddy, Director- Operations, Group Oncology & International, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre said, “At Apollo Proton Cancer Centre, we prioritize our patients over everything. The treatments are well customized to ensure our patients are treated with finesse and recover steadily. When a patient on-boards the journey to lead a cancer-free life, we hold their hands and stand by them. We hope that we continue to touch lives across the world. It is a matter of pride that patients from SAARC put their trust and life in the hands of doctors at Apollo.”In his address Mr Harish Trivedi, Chief Executive Officer, Apollo Proton Cancer Centre mentioned that “The Apollo Proton Cancer Centre has a state-of-the-art dedicated Robot-Assisted Cancer Surgery Unit. It offers specialized 360-degree care with the most advanced robotics system for complex surgeries. Apollo Cardiologists perform a complex & novel non-surgical mitral valve procedure on an 87-year-old woman wit...
Hyderabad, August 2nd,2023: A team of Cardiologist at Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, led by Dr Ranga Reddy, a renowned interventional cardiologist specialising on structural heart disease, introduced a ground-breaking procedure, the MitraClip, for the first time in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, to treat an 87-year-old woman Ms Leela Nair, with recurrent heart failures. The complex and novel procedure involving unique double MitraClip procedure for this patient with severe mitral valve regurgitation or blood leaking backwards through the mitral valve, was done under the guidance of senior cardiologists Dr Manoj Agarwal, and Dr PC Rath, and senior cardiothoracic surgeon Dr Alla Gopala Krishna Gokhale.Mitral valve regurgitation or leakage of valve, a prevalent heart disease, occurs when the valve between the left heart chambers fails to close properly, leading to the backward leakage of blood. It affects around 24 million people worldwide, ranking as the third most common form of valvular heart disease. Conventional treatment involves minimal-invasive mitral valve surgery, which may be effective but poses high procedural complications for older patients or high-risk patients. The non-surgical MitraClip procedure offers a good alternative, improving patient outcomes for those with severe Mitral valve regurgitation. The MitraClip Procedure is a revolutionary and minimally invasive procedure as it involves a catheter to insert a clip to hold the edges of the mitral valve together, providing a unique and safer treatment option compared to the mitral valve surgery, especially for patients aged 60 and above. This procedure offers better recovery prospects and prolongs the life for patients dealing with mitral regurgitation. The Apollo Heart Institute remains at the forefront of medical advancements, offering new-age treatments such as the MitraClip procedure for elderly patients, providing relief and confidence in healthcare options for a healthier and happier life. With this innovative medical approach, older individuals can find relief and confidence in their healthcare options, says Mr.Tejesvi Rao, CEO, Apollo Hospitals, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. The patient Ms Leela presented with recurrent heart failure hospitalizations and was a known case of severe mitral regurgitation. The 2-D echo and TEE investigations done on her indicated severe degenerative prolapse of posterior mitral valve, the cause for severe eccentric mitral regurgitation. She was advised for surgical valve repair/replacement. In view of her advance age and very high risk for open heart surgery, she was advised trans-catheter mitral valve repair with Mitraclip. Coronary angiogram done showed normal coronaries. After a multidisciplinary heart team meeting it was decided to go ahead with Mitraclip. Two Mitra clips were placed in her, which is typically done when a single clip is not sufficient to reduce backward blood flow adequately. The area of the prolapse in her was large and was causing severe mitral regurgitation, hence we used 2 clips and that significantly reduced mitral regurgitation. The procedure done through right femoral vein, went uneventful, the patient recovered well and was ambulated within 12 hours, says Dr Ranga Reddy.About Apollo Hospitals

Apollo Hospitals commemorates ‘World No Tobacco’ day with a public awareness program!
ACP Traffic Sri Anil Kumar burns a giant cigarette, to symbolically burn tobacco before it burns us.Hyderabad, May 31st, 2018: To commemorate the World Health Organisation designated World No Tobacco day, on May 31st, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, hosted a No Tobacco usage awareness event on Thursday at KBR Park main gate. Chief Guest Sri Anil Kumar, IPS, ACP (Traffic), Hyderabad, burnt a giant cigarette, to symbolically burn tobacco before it burns us and create a smoke free world for us and the future generations. Mr. Y Subramanyam, CEO, Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad; Dr. Umanath Nayak, Consultant, Head & Neck Cancer Surgeon, Apollo Cancer Institute & Dr. Sai Praveen Haranath, Pulmonologist & Critical care specialist, Apollo Hospitals, were present on the occasion. The No Tobacco Usage Program was organised to raise awareness amongst the public about the dangerous health effects and fatal impact of Tobacco on human beings. The wide spread use of bidis, cigarettes, tobacco chewing andhookah, especially among the younger generation is tragic and cause for serious social concern. It is estimated that there are over 20 million adolescents in the age group of 15–20 years who are addicted to some form of tobacco or pan masala in India.Tobacco besides impacting breathing, can worsen asthma, lead to COPD and is also the cause for over a third of all cancers. The focus of World No Tobacco Day 2018 is “Tobacco and heart disease”, as heart and other cardiovascular diseases (CVD), including stroke, are the world’s leading causes of death. Studies in the past indicated that Tobacco use is an important risk factor for the development of coronary heart disease, stroke, and peripheral vascular disease.Despite the known harms of tobacco to heart health, and the availability of solutions to reduce related death and disease, knowledge among large sections of the public that tobacco is one of the leading causes of CVD is dismal.Cardiovascular diseases kill more people than any other cause of death worldwide, and tobacco use and second-hand smoke exposure contribute to approximately 12% of all heart disease deaths. Tobacco use is the second leading cause of CVD, after high blood pressure. The global tobacco epidemic kills more than 7 million people each year, of which close to 9,00,000 are non-smokers dying from breathing second-hand smoke. Nearly 80% of the more than 1 billion smokers worldwide live in low and middle-income countries, where the burden of tobacco-related illness and death is catastrophic.Apollo Hospitals, as the global leaders in promoting health, has established a comprehensive program to detect, prevent, treat and control all Tobacco related diseases at its dedicated Tobacco and smoking cessation clinics. TheClinics have Pulmonologists, counselors and an entire team of health professionals to manage and stop the tobacco addiction and treat related ailments.About Apollo HospitalsIt was in 1983, that Dr.Prathap Reddy made a pioneering endeavour by launching India’s first corporate hospital – Apollo Hospital in Chennai.
