Dr. Soumen Roy is a Surgical Gastroenterologist at Apollo Hospitals, Bhubaneswar, with over 18 years of experience. His areas of expertise include gastrointestinal surgery, hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgery, liver transplantation and gastrointestinal cancer surgery. He also performs advanced laparoscopic and robotic procedures, with treatment tailored to each patient’s condition.

Dr. Roy completed his MBBS at SCB Medical College, Cuttack, MS in General Surgery at PGIMER, Chandigarh, and MCh in Surgical Gastroenterology at AIIMS, New Delhi. He subsequently pursued a Fellowship in Liver Transplantation at Apollo Hospital, New Delhi, and a Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery at Max Hospital, New Delhi. In 2024, he further advanced his training through an Organ Transplant Fellowship at Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden.

His clinical practice encompasses the surgical management of liver, pancreatic and biliary diseases, as well as cancers of the oesophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, colon and rectum. His expertise also includes complex gastrointestinal procedures and minimally invasive approaches for suitable patients.

Dr. Roy has contributed to the liver transplant programme at Apollo Hospitals, Bhubaneswar, including its successful liver transplant milestone. His transplant experience includes living-donor and deceased-donor procedures. *He received a certificate of appreciation for assisting in three liver transplants, comprising two living-donor and one deceased-donor transplant, in a single day on 18 September 2018.* He has also received the Times Health Icon Award for Clinical Excellence in GI-HPB Oncology and Liver Transplantation.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr. Roy participates in medical education and public awareness programmes on liver health, organ donation and transplantation. His professional memberships include the Indian Association of Surgical Gastroenterology, Association of Surgeons of India, European-African Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Association, International Liver Transplantation Society and Liver Transplantation Society of India.

At Apollo Hospitals, Bhubaneswar, Dr. Roy works with a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive evaluation, individualised surgical planning and coordinated postoperative care. He is the only person to achieve 10 successful liver transplantation with 100% success rate at Apollo hospital ( only hospital in odisha ) in a year .
