    The pediatric cardiac team at the new Apollo Children’s Hospital, Chennai successfully performed a complicated surgery to treat a condition called complete A-V canal defect in a four-month-old Nigerian baby. Apollo Children’s Hospital, is a one of its kind comprehensive paediatric hospital in the country. A tertiary care multi-speciality hospital, the Apollo Children’s Hospital will administer health care for children from birth to adolescence under one roof. The pediatric cardiac team at the new Apollo Children’s Hospital at Chennai successfully performed a complicated surgery to treat a condition called complete a-v canal defect in a four-month-old Nigerian baby. Speaking at the press briefing alongside the patient, Dr Neville Solomon, pediatric cardiac surgeon and Dr Muthukumaran, pediatric cardiologist said, “”The Nigerian baby was ailing with a condition called complete a-v canal defect. This consists of two holes in the heart with mitral and tricuspid valves possibly leaky as well. The child also has Down’s syndrome, which makes the surgery even more risky. The child was investigated by 2D echo, 3D echo and catheterization and angiogram. The surgery involved closing of the holes in the heart and repairing the mitral and tricuspid valves.”” The preoperative 3D echo was done by Dr Muthukumaran, who is among the few cardiologists in the country trained to perform this investigative procedure. This 3D transesophageal echo at Apollo is the first of its type in Tamil Nadu. Dr Neville Solomon added, “”It is gratifying that the baby was brought in for surgery by the fourth month as usually beyond six months, the results are not as good. It is gratifying that the baby is doing well and will be returning home tomorrow.     Apollo Chennai Achieves Breakthrough in Complex Coronary Care with Advanced CHIP & ELCA Laser Techniques
    Apollo Hospitals, Chennai, has set a new standard in complex cardiac care by successfully treating two high-risk coronary cases.     Hospitals in Chennai are deploying AI-powered scan systems that detects possible stroke symptoms to radiologists within minutes, much before human review. A stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is interrupted or reduced, depriving the brain tissue of oxygen and nutrients. AI-driven scans now generate a “severity score” that computes stroke intensity and helps doctors initiate quicker action with intravenous thrombolysis within 4½ hours or mechanical thrombectomy within 6½ hours for timely and appropriate treatment.  According to Dr. Ilankumaran Kaliamoorthy, CEO of Apollo Hospitals, Chennai region, the integration of AI has cut the time taken from scan to interpretation from about 30 minutes to just 7 minutes.  Neuro-endovascular surgeon Dr. Srinivasan Paramasivan at Apollo Hospitals, Chennai shared that with stroke, each lost minute destroys 12 km of nerve fibres. Therefore, diagnostic speed is the key.
