Hematopathology
Hematopathology is the branch of pathology that focuses on the study of blood, bone marrow, and lymphoid tissues to detect and classify diseases of the blood and immune system, including leukemias, lymphomas, anemias, and treatment-related changes in cancer patients. At Apollo Athenaa, hematopathology supports the full spectrum of cancer care. Our in-house team of hematopathologists works closely with medical oncologists and clinicians to interpret complex blood disorders and ensure timely, personalized treatment.
Specialized diagnostic techniques include: Flow cytometry, which analyses cells in blood or bone marrow for size, shape, and surface proteins of cells, crucial in diagnosing and subclassifying leukemias and lymphomas. FISH (Fluorescence In Situ Hybridisation), which uses fluorescent probes to detect specific genetic abnormalities in cells, valuable for identifying chromosomal rearrangements and mutations. Immunohistochemistry, which uses labelled antibodies to detect protein expression in tissue samples, helping detect cancer. PCR-Based Tests, which amplify trace amounts of DNA or RNA to detect mutations or residual disease with high sensitivity.
